L.I.F.E. Program (Leisure Involvement For Everyone)

Victoria's low-income recreation membership. It runs two years from your approval date, not by calendar year, and covers pool, skating and regional partner facilities.

What it is

Benefits include unlimited free drop-in sessions at Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre, unlimited drop-in public skating at Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena, and 52 free drop-in sessions a year at participating regional partner facilities — those 52 follow the calendar year and you need a new sticker each year. Credit toward registered programming for the two-year term is $80 per preschooler aged 0 to 5, $120 per youth aged 6 to 18, and $80 per adult aged 19 and over, usable at Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre or at community and senior centres in the municipality. Instead of unlimited Crystal Pool access you can choose to buy an Annual Regional Recreation Pass at 50% off, and your credit can go toward that; the second year of the membership returns to unlimited drop-ins. To apply, bring the L.I.F.E. Application Form, one per family at the same address; proof of Victoria residency, using a current utility bill, phone bill or rental agreement from within the last three months; and proof of income, using the most recent CRA Notice of Assessment for everyone over 19 in the household and line 15000. Applicants who cannot provide the documents may still apply using an adjudicator: a community member with a professional relationship to the applicant who can verify their financial and residential situation.

Who it is for

Membership is valid for two years and the cycle begins on your approval date, so you do not have to apply in January. The registered-programming credit is for the whole two-year term, not per year.

Amount or value

Two years of unlimited free drop-ins, 52 free regional drop-ins a year, plus a program credit of $80 to $120 depending on age
