Child Disability Benefit

A tax-free monthly amount added to the Canada Child Benefit for a child approved for the DTC.

What it is

Extra monthly money for families raising a child under 18 who qualifies for the Disability Tax Credit. It's added on top of the regular Canada Child Benefit.

Who it is for

Once your child is approved for the DTC and you already receive the Canada Child Benefit, this is added automatically — no separate form.

Amount or value

Up to $3,480 / year per child ($290 / month)

How to apply

  1. Apply for the DTC for your child (Form T2201).
  2. Make sure you're already receiving the Canada Child Benefit (CCB).
  3. Once the DTC is approved, the Child Disability Benefit is added automatically.

What you may need

  • Your child's DTC approval
  • You must be the person receiving the CCB

Practical tips

  • No separate application — the hard part is just getting your child's DTC approved.
  • The amount reduces gradually for family income over about $82,847.

Timing

Added to your next CCB payment after DTC approval.
