Property Tax Deferment for Persons with Disabilities
Instead of paying your property taxes each year, the province pays them and registers a loan against your home. You repay when you sell or transfer it.
What it is
Interest is charged at an annual rate of 2 percent above the prime rate of the government's principal banker. The rate is reset periodically, so check the current rate on the government's interest and fees page before you decide. There is a $60 administrative fee when you first apply and a $10 fee each year you renew.
Who it is for
The 25 percent equity rule means your charges plus deferred taxes cannot exceed 75 percent of the BC Assessment value of your home. Interest compounds monthly for taxes deferred for the 2026 and later tax years. You are not charged interest on the application or renewal fees.
Amount or value
A low-interest provincial loan that pays your annual property taxes; interest is 2% above the prime rate, plus a $60 application fee and a $10 annual renewal fee
